Inkover

A pen for the page you are reading.

Inkover puts Apple Pencil on top of Safari. Lock the page, then circle, underline and highlight it with your hand resting on the glass. The ink stays attached to the words, survives reload, and never leaves your iPad.

Lock to draw, Unlock to browse

Locked, the Pencil is a pen. It never taps a link or scrolls by accident, and your resting hand cannot move the page under it. Unlocked, the Pencil and your finger both browse as normal. One switch, nothing automatic.

Ink that stays put

Most drawing extensions paint on a spot on the screen. Inkover attaches every stroke to the text or image under it. When the page reflows, the ink moves with it. When that content is hidden, the ink hides too.

The tools

A pressure-sensitive pen, a translucent highlighter and an eraser that removes whole strokes. Hold still at the end of a stroke and a rough circle becomes a clean ellipse, a wobbly line becomes straight. Scribble over ink to erase it.

For reading, not note-taking

Trail is ink that follows the Pencil and fades in under a second, for tracing while you read. Spotlight dims everything but the line under the Pencil. Undo, redo, hide all ink, clear the page.

Private by design

Ink is saved on your iPad, per page, until you clear it. There is no account, no sync, no server and no analytics. Inkover makes no network requests at all. The full privacy policy is one page.

Requirements

An iPad running iPadOS 17 or later and any Apple Pencil. Inkover is a Safari extension: after installing it from the App Store, turn it on in Settings under Apps, Safari, Extensions. The support page has the steps.
