Support
Everything Inkover does is on this page. If something here does not match what you see, that is a bug and the address at the bottom is where to report it.
Turning it on
- Get Inkover from the App Store. It is free, and iPad only.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then Safari, then Extensions.
- Tap Inkover and turn on Allow Extension.
- Under Permissions, set All Websites to Allow, so it works on every page without asking.
- In Safari, open any page and tap the Inkover button in the address bar. If you do not see it, tap the extensions button, the puzzle piece, and choose Inkover.
Tap the same button again to turn Inkover off on that page.
Lock to draw, Unlock to browse
- Locked. The Pencil draws. Your hand does nothing on the page, so you can rest your palm and write. The Pencil never taps a link or scrolls.
- Unlocked. The Pencil and your finger both scroll, tap and pinch as normal. Nothing draws.
- The lock button on the toolbar switches between the two. Nothing switches on its own. Turning Inkover on from Safari’s button starts Locked.
After Unlock, lift your whole hand before scrolling: a palm that was already resting is ignored until it lifts.
The toolbar
- Pen draws with pressure. Highlight is translucent. Eraser removes a whole stroke at a touch. Double-tap the page with the Pencil tip to switch to the Eraser and back.
- Trail follows the Pencil and fades in under a second. Spotlight dims everything but the line under the Pencil.
- Hold still at the end of a stroke to turn a rough circle into an ellipse, a box into a rectangle, or a wobbly line into a straight one.
- Scribble back and forth over ink to erase it.
- The colour row has presets and one custom swatch per tool. Tap the custom swatch to use its colour, tap it again to open the colour picker.
- Undo, Redo, Hide all ink without deleting it, Clear the page. More holds labels, compact buttons and a reset.
- Drag the toolbar by its grip to any edge. Tap the grip to collapse it to two circles: the current tool, and a lock that switches without opening the toolbar.
Where ink lives
Ink is saved on this iPad per page address, until you clear it. It reappears when you return to the page, and it stays attached to the text it was drawn on when the page reflows. Nothing is sent anywhere. Deleting the app deletes all ink.
If something is wrong
- The toolbar does not appear. Check that the extension is allowed in Settings and that the site is allowed. Then force-quit Safari from the app switcher and open it again: Safari keeps an old copy of an extension running until then.
- The Pencil scrolls instead of drawing. Inkover is off or Unlocked. Tap its button in the address bar, or tap Lock on the toolbar.
- A finger does nothing. The page is Locked. Tap Unlock, then lift your whole hand before scrolling.
- Ink is in the wrong place after the page changed. The text it was drawn on moved in a way Inkover could not follow. Undo and redraw; it is the exception, not the rule.
- Inkover does not run. It cannot run in Reader view, on PDFs, or on pages Safari itself restricts.
